1. Change is a process, and that process can be chaotic and contentious. People do not like change because they are not in control, it is uncertain, they don’t like surprises, it’s different, they are defensive, they question their competence, it creates more work, it overreaches, there are past resentments, or it threatens to hurt their future (Kanter, 2012). We can focus on these negative aspects of change, or we can take Paul’s advice to the Philippians:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
